**URGENT!!** TENNESSEE MOMS NEED HEALTHCARE, NOT HANDCUFFS
URGENT!!!
The Tennessee state senate has passed SB 1391 that would criminalize pregnant women dealing with substance use disorders… The law would bring criminal charges on women who deliver babies dependent on substances – there is NO exception for medication assisted treatment patients, so our patients who deliver babies physically dependent on methadone or buprenorphine (despite this being the STANDARD OF CARE for pregnant opioid dependent women) could be JAILED for receiving the gold standard medical treatment for their chronic health condition! This bill has passed both the TN State House and the TN State Senate…. The only way to stop it now (outside a court battle after the fact) is for Governor Bill Haslam to VETO the bill….
PLEASE take a few minutes out of your day TODAY and CALL (615-741-2001) and/or EMAIL (bill.haslam@tn.gov) Governor Haslam and ask him to veto this bill!! Pregnant opioid dependent women need TREATMENT NOT JAIL!! And forward this to your friends and family!!!
